PAS 141 the new standard which aims to increase re-use and reduce illegal exporting of WEEE will come into operation this Autumn. The standard will set out the requirements for the preparation of equipment for re-use to ensure that repaired products are of the highest quality. It is hoped consumer confidence in purchasing re-use equipment will increase, reassured by the standard that the equipment they are purchasing is functionally fit and safe to use. Items will be labelled accordingly to help identify equipment that has been processed through the PAS 141 standard. By differentiating the equipment that is PAS 141 marked against equipment that has not passed through the standard, it is hoped equipment sent for illegal export will be easier to identify.
