A consultation on proposed amendments to the UK’s producer responsibility regulations is due to be launched in early 2013 in an attempt to achieve alignment and to reduce costs for businesses. The review will encompass the four PR regulations currently in place – covering packaging, end-of-life vehicle, WEEE and batteries. DEFRA has now published a list of potential measures ahead of a consultation early next year. A spokesperson from Defra’s Producer Responsibility Unit said: “Over the next few weeks, we will start working up policy proposals and options which aim to address various issues and ideas and are aiming to launch consultations on any proposed amendments to the Regulations in early 2013.”
