B2B Compliance’s exciting member event is fast approaching! Taking place on Thursday 15th June, it offers members the chance to meet and discuss WEEE-related challenges as well as hear from B2B Compliance on coming changes to WEEE policy, market updates and other producer responsibility regulations.

As a further benefit for our attendees, B2B Compliance is also dedicating some of the event to related issues, such as RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals and the Modern Slavery Act 2015. These polled as being of importance to our members – and so we’ve taken the step of securing an expert speaker, Dr Alex Martin, Senior Regulatory Consultant from Edif ERA, to brief us in on both what’s current and on the horizon.

Alex will talk us through RoHS open scope transition in 2019 and what’s currently going on with RoHS exemption requests and renewals – vital if your business relies on one or more exemptions to keep products functioning. Alex will tackle REACH too, summarising the significance of “Substances of Very High Concern”, how REACH treats EEE as “articles” and what is happening in relation to new guidance on “substances in articles”.

On the ethical issues of conflict minerals and modern slavery, Alex will discuss the law now in place and forthcoming. There will be more to do in the future, with drivers for greater disclosure coming from regulation and customers alike.

About Alex

Before joining Edif ERA in 2015, Alex held regulatory and QA posts in industry and has previously been responsible for managing WEEE, packaging and battery obligations (UK and international). He now consults on environmental and technical regulation that affects EEE: RoHS and REACH, ecodesign, LVD, EMC and RED to name but a few. He is also currently part of a team researching how EU small and medium sized enterprises might best be supported with conflict minerals due diligence. This is a project for the European Commission.
