The European Commission’s DG Environment has published its Consolidated version of the FAQ document on the new WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU.
The FAQs confirm the timescale of the transitional period which finishes on 14th August 2018 when scope will be widened and included in a reduced number of categories. This may not prevent individual Member States from extending the categories (as is currently the case in the UK) in order to achieve pragmatic and efficient solutions.
While not legally binding the FAQs are the views of DG Environment and any definitive interpretation would take place in the European Courts of Justice. The FAQs may be downloaded here.
